MARCH 12, 2026
Dear Aurora families,

At our February Board meeting, we had the privilege of reviewing continued academic excellence, student achievement, and steady growth across all campuses.

As AACS continues to mature, we are encouraged by the strength of our programming, the commitment of our staff, and the remarkable accomplishments of our students
CAMPUS HIGHLIGHTS
Across all three campuses, February reflected focused instruction and vibrant student engagement.
At AACS Sherbrooke, teachers from multiple campuses collaborated through a joint professional development day, reinforcing shared instructional expectations across the Authority. Students continued to thrive in athletics, clubs, and enrichment programming, alongside community events such as 100 Days of School and Bear Den Brain Booster.

At AACS Skyrattler, academic growth stood out. Over the past month, staff supported 30 students in improving achievement from below 50% to 60% or higher: meaningful progress that demonstrates both instructional intentionality and student perseverance. Skyrattler students also earned 9 of the 18 medals at the joint Science Fair, an impressive showing for a developing campus. Expanded student-led clubs and extracurricular opportunities continue to strengthen school identity and a sense of belonging.

At AACS Alberta Avenue, excellence was celebrated across disciplines. The campus Awards Ceremony welcomed more than 100 parents in person and nearly as many online, recognising achievements in academics, athletics, leadership, and service. Speech and Debate students earned historic provincial medals, and the Aurora Improv Team captured gold at the Edmonton competition.

Senior academic outcomes remain exceptionally strong, with 97% of graduates securing post-secondary acceptance to date.

The Board was especially honoured to recognise Sanvi Kataria, who achieved 100% in Math 30-1 and Biology 30 diploma examinations and a perfect course standing in Chemistry 30. Sanvi’s accomplishments reflect the dedication of our students and the supportive learning environment cultivated at Aurora.
STUDENT WELLBEING & SUPPORT / RESEARCH & INNOVATION

AACS continues to advance meaningful research partnerships aligned with literacy, wellness, and digital citizenship.
This month included collaboration with the University of Alberta on literacy research and continued work through the University of Calgary’s ConnectED initiative focused on adolescent wellbeing. A new partnership exploring student engagement and mobile device use is also underway.

These initiatives reflect our commitment to evidence-informed practice and continuous improvement
ATTENDANCE & SHARED COMMITMENT

The Board also reviewed work underway to strengthen attendance expectations and clarity for families.
As a charter school built on sequenced instruction and deliberate program choice, consistent participation is foundational to student success. The Board remains committed to balancing compassion for individual circumstances with clear, supportive processes that maintain program integrity for all students.

When students are present and engaged, outcomes improve, and this shared commitment remains central to Aurora’s success
LOOKING AHEAD

In the months ahead, the Board will continue to focus on:
-
Sustaining academic excellence across campuses
-
Supporting student engagement and belonging
-
Strengthening attendance clarity and shared expectations
-
Preparing for 2026–2027 planning and continued growth

Thank you for your continued partnership and trust. Together, we celebrate the extraordinary achievements of our students and the dedicated work of our staff.
