HISTORY

Founded to offer a challenging, academically focused public education option, Aurora Academic Charter School is built on structured instruction, strong core knowledge, and high expectations for every student. Over time, Aurora has grown from a single-campus charter school into a thriving multi-campus school community, while remaining grounded in its commitment to academic excellence, character development, and a clear, purposeful approach to learning.

Celebrating Three Decades of Academic Excellence

Aurora Academic Charter School’s charter was granted on May 16, 1996, and the school opened later that year in Edmonton with 280 Kindergarten to Grade 8 students. Grade 9 was added in 1997, and in 2007, Aurora relocated to its Sherbrooke site, marking an important step in the school’s continued growth and development.

A significant new chapter began in 2022, when Aurora launched its high school programme and extended its educational model into secondary education. In the years that followed, Aurora continued to expand, reflecting both sustained family demand and the school’s long-term vision for thoughtful, purposeful growth.

Aurora Academic Charter School began with a clear purpose: to provide a structured, academically focused public education for families seeking something different. Opening in Edmonton with 280 Kindergarten to Grade 8 students, the school quickly established a strong foundation built on high expectations, orderly classrooms, and a commitment to student success.

That foundation continues to guide Aurora today, shaping both its growth and its approach to teaching and learning.
